This illustration was for a poetry book (my second), and it was quite an interesting job. Gary has an interesting theme going throughout the poems in the book, which is the Shadow City where the events of the poems take place. I was captured by that idea, and used it as the backdrop for my cover concept. I saw the city as a vast metropolis combined with immense gravestones, where no life is evident except for crows. I wanted to show one of the city's denizens from two different perspectives, one leading to the other, and culminating with the kaleidoscope eyes. Once again, I used myself as the model for the foreground character, and the forced perspective pose worked well for illustrating the disturbed imbalance of the character in question. |
