The Valley of the Scarecrow
2010 cover illustration for Gord Rollo's upcoming novel "The Valley of the Scarecrow". Dark Regions Press
16 x 20 in. approx. Digital

I have always felt scarecrows were a bit creepy, even when they are not undead. Old abandoned buildings and dried cornfields also put me on edge. There was a short period where, as a child, my sister and I went to live with our grandparents on a farm in eastern NC. It was not a happy time for our family, and the combination of events and environment evidently linger in my artistic psyche. I poured a fair dose of that into this painting, which, along with Gord's nicely descriptive text, made for a quite frightening image. I am pleased with the result, and look forward to reading the full novel when it comes out.
