M.I.L.O.'s First Sunrise

In an effort to expand the Sci-Fi side of my portfolio, and get some Sci-Fi illustration work, I am going to be adding personal works based on various things which inspire me. This particular image is inspired by a podcast story called Beachcomber, by Mike Resnick. I took artistic license with the robot and environment, but stayed very close to the original text. I love the simple innocence of the concept and the juxtaposition of future and decay, as well as the idea of a robot appreciating beauty that the human security officer will not. I also really liked painting the futuristic cityscape and spacecraft, as they are some things I have not been able to paint very often.
